How to make a relationship last

Everything's great during the "honeymoon" of a relationship. Sparks are flying and you can't get enough of each other. She's the perfect girl in every way and even your parents like her. But the real test of a relationship comes a few months later. By then, the little quirks and idiosyncrasies start to come out. You've had your first argument (she doesn't like your friend who is always crashing on your couch) and things are looking a little rocky. How do people make relationships last? If you follow these guidelines, you should be in good shape.
1. Listen.
Listening is the most important thing you can do to make a relationship last. Often times, we get caught up in the day-to-day grind of living and forget that she has things on her mind too. Take some time to sit down with her and let her talk. Don't offer up solutions all at once, because sometimes she just wants to know you care.
2. Give gifts
You know the saying it's the thought that counts, right? Well, that's halfway right. The other half includes chocolates, flowers and little notes on the bathroom mirror. These things show that you care and are thinking about her.
3. Compliment her
Give her praise. Tell her that you are impressed by something she did or said. Build her up and you never have to worry about her needing attention.
4. Surprise her in bed
Try something new and exciting. It doesn't have to be too crazy. Nibble her ears, talk dirty to her, caress her more--the point is to change things up so she doesn't feel like things are getting stagnant in that arena.
5. Flirt with her
Remember all the things you did at the beginning of the relationship. The eye contact and the flirty things you said. Those things are definitely still important. Keep doing them.
6. Support her
Whether it's helping her study for a final exam or picking her up after a long shift at work, the point is that you are being there for her. You're supposed to be the knight in shining armor, right? So act like it!
Relationships change after the "honeymoon is over". If you really want to make the relationship last, you need to keep on showing her that you are interested and also be willing to change things up again. If you follow the steps above then you'll have no problem keeping her. |
